The Environmentally Conscious Consumer Under Pressure

The third annual study discovered that:

  • 99% of consumers are willing to take additional steps to reduce their environmental footprint.
  • 89% say their readiness to pay extra for sustainable delivery has been influenced by economic conditions.
  • 37% view convenience and environmental impact as equally important in their purchasing decisions.
  • 56% of 18-34-year-olds have cut back on online shopping this year due to concerns about the environment.

Exploring the Impact of Sustainability on Consumer Choices in Delivery and Purchasing Across Demographics

Descartes and SAPIO Research surveyed 8,000 consumers across nine European countries, Canada and the United States to provide retailers and logistics organisations with critical insights into the importance of the environment in consumer purchase and delivery decisions and how perspectives vary by age and geography.

Raising questions such as;

  • What role does the environment play in those purchase and delivery decisions?
  • How motivated are consumers to reduce their carbon footprint through sustainable products and eco-friendly home delivery options?
  • What impact are inflation and other economic factors having on consumers’ delivery preferences and behaviour?

The goal was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the intersection of sustainability, last mile delivery, and consumer buying behaviour across demographics, as well as assessing consumer motivation to reduce their carbon footprint through eco-friendly home delivery options.
