Descartes routing software, when integrated with your online sales system can offer appointment booking for delivery times. The software determines the best delivery slots to present to a customer during the buying process. These delivery slots are dynamically derived and economically scored based upon multiple variables, such as delivery location; proximity to other scheduled deliveries; order size; and road speeds or other restrictions.
The solution’s flexibility allows distributors, retailers and other delivery organisations to offer different appointment window sizes and value-added services at the time of ordering. These important features help drive revenue for retailers by providing appointment flexibility and possible adoption of incremental services.
When the scheduling system is connected to the routing system validating true logistics capacity in real time, the logistics cost is then known in real time and can used to influence the consumer's selection. E.g. if 5 neighbours have selected an AM delivery and there is room for an additional one, it could be offered to another neighbour who is making a purchase and the delivery could be potentially made sooner. This improves customer service while also leveraging the fleet capacity and improving delivery density. These types of delivery slots can also be incentivised, if delivery is being charged for, and be made cheaper than alternative slots when other local deliveries are not taking place.
